Starting the Journey: SOLAR FUTURES Phase 1 in Brussels

09.06.2026

From May 4th to 15th, the Brussels residency served as a starting point for the artists and the Ohme team to get to know one another and pitch their projects.

The programme included meetings with a variety of experts in science and technology — from iMAL (Interactive Media Art Laboratory) and ULB Solbosch to the SWIFFT Collective and Mekanika — covering topics such as digital cultures, artificial intelligence, the societal impact of technology, energy, degrowth, sustainability transitions, ecopoetics, decolonial perspectives, solar web, permacomputing and energy autonomy.

Alongside these exchanges, there were several encounters with the Brussels cultural scene: a visit to the Royal Greenhouses, a film screening, and a number of inspiring performances during the renowned Kunstenfestivaldesarts, featuring artists such as Germaine Kruip and Apichatpong Weerasethakul.
